Surviving another commute

On my daily commute to and from work I travel on Interstate 280 which is safer than my other option, Highway 101. With 45 miles of travel in each direction during peak commute hours, I'm looking for the safest route I can take. 280 has wide open roads with a distant line of site, gorgeous vistas and a…See More

Performance enhancements: Vance & Hines Cruzers, K&N air filter

Tonight I picked up my bike from Motorcycle Madness after having some Vance & Hines Cruzers and a K&N air filter installed. After asking around the 650 CC&D forums I knew these two mods would be exactly what I needed to give my bike that extra oomph I was looking for.I researched the exhaust system for a while - mainly on forums but also a lot on YouTube. I really liked the way they sounded and the sales pitch sealed the deal.Marcus at Motorcycle Madness took great care of me as well…See More

Why I bought a V-Star 650

I searched for months on end for my first motorcycle and just couldn't find something I liked. I went to all the local dealers and researched the SV650, FZ-1, dirt bikes, standards, naked and cruisers.Nothing quite felt right and then one day, I saw the V-Star 650. I sat on it and it felt perfect and of course looked amazing. I came back the next day and bought it on the spot.See More

Should have RTFW

I'd say the thing I most often say when visiting any motorcycle shop is "well, I'm learning bit by bit".

This latest bit just hurt the pocketbook a little more than the last.

It all started about a month ago.. I hadn't ridden my bike in 4 or 5 days and preparing for my morning commute I had some trouble starting it. After about half an hour of waiting and retrying I finally got it to start and rode to work without further incident.

Had a nice day at the office… Continue

The petcock was to blame

A funny thing happened on the way to fill up gas. I reached an intersection and my bike died. I suspected it might have something to do with the oil overfill problem so I calmly pedaled my way to a safe place and checked the gas tank. I was only at 127 miles so I knew I had a good 10 miles left before empty.

Wouldn't you know it? The tank is so empty I can see sediment and knock knock - really, it's completely empty.

I send an email to my team's mailing list asking… Continue
